Rainy November

Dear Campus View Families,

I hope that you have settled into this school year and that you had an opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving and had a chance to reflect on Remembrance day. As the weather is getting cooler, and is often windy and rainy, don’t forget to send your children with appropriate clothing.

With over 7000 active cases of Covid-19 in BC, and 128 in the VIHA area, I know that our family is paying close attention to our government’s response, as I am sure your family is as well. We are so lucky to have the wonderful Dr. Bonnie Henry leading us through. Don’t forget to review the daily health check from SD61 before sending your children off to school: https://www.sd61.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/91/2020/09/GVSD61_DailyHealthChecklist_20200922_Final.pdf Here are some other pages that I look at frequently to find information:

BC Government’s News: https://news.gov.bc.ca/

BCCDC’s data: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/a6f23959a8b14bfa989e3cda29297ded

VIHA’s daily dashboard: https://www.islandhealth.ca/sites/default/files/covid-19/documents/public-health-covid19-daily-dashboard.pdf

I wanted to thank all the families who donated to the PAC’s donation drive this year. It is the first time in my 8 years at the school (not all as PAC Prez!!) that we were able to meet our $10,000 goal, and it is especially important this year, as our fundraising opportunities have been reduced due to Covid-19. This money goes towards our teacher grant program, which is $300 for each classroom. Music teachers also receive funding, and the EAs spend money towards new playground equipment each year. In the past, teachers have purchased new folders for each of their students, educational presentations, classroom parties and field trips. With funds left over, we pay for chess lessons for the school, and school-wide presentations. THANK YOU!

We are looking for a grant writer for our intermediate playground – please reach out if this is something that you are interested in doing.

In the words of our Bonnie Henry,

Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe,

-Karen
